Volunteering in the Community
As a communicator, I've learned how to use my forces for good. I am thankful for these volunteer opportunities presented in my University, my county, and my state.
O'Hair Park Community Association-Detroit, Michigan
The O'Hair Park Community Association is a community in District 1, serving the residents and businesses from West 8 Mile Road to West 7 Mile Road and Southfield to Evergreen. This association works to better their community and make it a place that people want to live through events, clean-ups, and grants. As Communication Volunteer, I edited and designed an annual report and made a map for the residents' annual Trunk or Treat event. This experience opened my eyes to community efforts outside of the Flint community. The volunteer efforts by the residents are inspiring.
One Campaign for Michigan 2020-Technology Captain
As a Technology Captain Volunteer Leader for One Campaign for Michigan, an initiative by the Michigan Democratic Party, I helped provide voters in Michigan with resources to help them vote in the 2020 election. This involved phone banking and managing virtual office hours to assist other volunteers with technology. I learned how to use outlets such as Zoom, texting, and phone calls to organize. By using my technology and problem solving skills, I was able to help other volunteers, such as an 85 year old woman, operate a phone banking program.

Giving Blueday Student Ambassador
As a Giving Blueday Student ambassador, I helped to spread the spirit of giving and philanthropy across campus and beyond, raising money for our campus initiatives. This included using social media, recording videos, and thanking donors. This was an excellent way to volunteer my communication-based skills to proudly represent UM-Flint.
